I wonder if anyone aside from people who mock me for not updating check this?

I figured this was as good a time as any to put something here for posterity or at least so if I lose my memory I know what I was doing around this time. I've got a few important things happening with my life right now as well as a couple of personal projects I'm working on that I feel will really help me get a better feel for my future endeavors.

At the moment, I've made great strides towards confronting my "inner demons" so to speak. I'm in talks to start seeing a therapist (as soon as she calls me back) and this nagging attention deficit thingy is being handled in a manner deemed appropriate by doctors who specialize in those things. Furthermore, on the physical health front, I'm posting two pictures on my bedroom wall to keep me motivated: someone of a similar build to me, except toned thus giving me a visible goal toward which I can strive, and a picture of a pretty asian lady I found with the taped-on word bubble of "I like strong-looking white guys." A bit hokey, I know, but I read a couple of surveys and research articles and it isn't too far off the mark. Also, I know I'm not technically white, but I look it, so I'm going with it. On the school front, I think finally crossing a bridge I thought (and hoped) I would never have to cross have made me decide to make this and all subsequent quarters "work" even if it kills me. I've been getting much better about not stopping and actually settling in and studying (and learning to boot) so even though the first 3 weeks of the quarter were a bit rough, the last seven will be tremendous.

With regard to the personal projects, they range from important, to for fun, and in-between. I'm working on learning some C# (difficult when SQL refuses to work on any computer I've tried) and making programs with it. This segues nicely into the two major projects I'm undertaking in C#. First of all, I'm trying to make a PC version of Capcom's Ace Attorney series. This is fun for me and also important because it's the first major project I'm actually pursuing that pertains to my hoped field, and because I get practice with interfaces, story writing, and just about all the parts of making it since it's a solo project. The other project is more for fun and also so I can clear the messes out of my car and basement. I'm working on a program that catalogs all my Magic cards and lets me search for cards that fit certain parameters and also keep track of decklists both assembled (with which cards are used from the collection) and archived so I can rebuild them easily. This brings me to the last project, which is to build a standard-legal deck by December which can stand up to the most dangerous Magic player I know against whom I will be playing at that time. The details of the deck are secret right now, but I definitely have a solid idea which I feel may even be competitive at the tournament level.

That's the basic gist of what's going on right now with me. I'm sitting here typing this in a computer lab as I kill a few minutes before a material science midterm. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody ever reads this except for me, but at least getting this down really feels...nice. I hope next time I actually say something here, things will be even better and I'll have positive updates on all the fronts I mentioned. Until then, don't stop believing.

This week feels like a lynchpin

So as I sit here, I think this week feels like a turning point of sorts. I feel very optimistic about how things are going in general for me from here on out, my quarter ends next week, and I even finally got my computer working properly again. To top things off, next week on Monday I will start a new fitness plan to which I have decided to stick vehemently. Shit, I wouldn't be surprised if this positivity even helps me get a job, finally.

I'm feeling pretty great and I believe things can only get better from here.

Revival of an old project

Anyone out there who knows me may have heard that last year I was one of three hosts on a podcast that ran for a handful of shows. Our listening audience was small, but loyal and it was a lot of fun. Since then, the one who was the driving force for that show has backed out, but I've been tempted for a while now to bring it back with or without the third guy. After some positive words from a couple of the old listeners, I've decided to go ahead with it.

I'm launching a new podcast sometime in mid-June (after finals). It'll be live with irc and (hopefully) listener input on the fly. I've already got a few pre-recorded segments in the works and some friends who have agreed to help with various bits. In any case, I'm feeling pretty excited about this and I hope at least a few of you out there are too. I haven't decided on what to call the show yet, so I'm open to suggestions. So far, unless I can think of a better one, I might just use the name of this blog.

Nothing else for now. Peace.

Bah, this gives me something to do

If it weren't for the date on the archive, I wouldn't even remember the last time I posted on this thing. All I know is that the sun is rising, I'm not that sleepy, and even if nobody reads it, sometimes just typing random crap on the internet can be fun. Now if someone paid me to do this at least I could cross "unemployment" off the list of problems to solve.

Anyway, it's a new day, so let's see if I can't get at least one positive thing out of it.

Obligatory first post

So yeah.

I had an epiphany the other day as I was sitting contemplating the direction of my life. I like talking and/or explaining things and having people listen. Hence, I am sharing nuggets of wisdom here.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Read if you wish. If not, then meh. Not my fault if the chupacabra eats your family.
